Caravaggio is one of my favourite Old Master Painters. When I saw it for the first time in the flesh at The National Gallery in London I was bowled over by its power and immediacy. It was then that I knew I wanted to recreate it, I wanted one for myself!
It was also an opportunity to study his ‘cinematic’ technique, his audacious style of figures emerging from darkness.
